Excerpts of negative responses
I have removed the most offensive content. I find some of the posts below genuinely thought-provoking.
- you belong to a Neo Nazi country that kills innocents by thousands. How can you live in the UK? How can you support the brutal occupation of Scotland? Wales? Ireland? Malvinas? Shame on you. You should boycott UK. At least I do.
- I find your letter very naive, and if I may say, it shows that you don't really base your opinions on a deep understanding of the conflict.
- I personally disagree with almost everything Prof. Levitt has said, and I consider his ill-informed and biased position an affront to humanity and to me personally.
- I don't believe science and politics mix well, but since you've chosen to mix them I feel obliged to respond. Putting aside the question of the validity of Israel's actions - noting that I do not agree with many of your views and your choice of words - aren't you practicing precisely what you're preaching against? You state that you've encountered hospitality and humanity in the Israeli scientific community, and yet you feel you are morally justified in sanctioning it; you feel it is fine to sacrifice the innocent for your cause of sanctioning Israeli academia (once again, by saying 'innocent' I'm merely implying that, from your point of view, there are 'non-innocent' among us). Yet, in your view, when Israel does the same thing when defending itself in Gaza - namely, targeting (having no other choice) hostile Hamas terrorists who choose to hide near centers of civilian population - it is morally wrong. This makes me wonder whether you are really lamenting the involvement of the innocent; or do you consider it acceptable to involve them when it serves your own ideals and purposes?
